Becky Staden

My name is Becky Staden, and I’ve been eventing for over ten years. I am twenty three years old and rode full time and am graduating in 2018 with a Bachelors Degree in Sociology from the University of Calgary.

I have been a member of the High Performance Team since 2012, when I actively campaigned two horses. I have been a working student for Rebecca Lee, and in 2013, I was a working student for Stephen Bradley. During this time, I ran the CIC* at Fairhill and the CCI* at Virginia Horse Trials and have been qualified for Young Riders. A highlight from this trip was getting to ride Brandenburg’s Joshua daily, Stephen’s retired 4**** mount. I currently train with Canadian Olympian Sandra Donnelly of Alborak Stable, as well as Leanne Copithorne and Verena Mahin.

I bought my current mare, an OTTB “Belleza” or Cora in 2015. Sandra found her in California, told me she was the one, and I bought her sight unseen, and she has helped me develop her ever since. In 2017, Cora was the Alberta Open Pre-Training level champion. My goals with Cora are to be competitive at the CCI** level. My short term goals for 2018 are to compete the Training 3Day at Rebecca Farm and make a prelim upgrade.

I’m thrilled to be on the High Performance Team. The support is unwavering – in not only the training aspect, but the morale as well. HP has given me so many opportunities to grow as a rider and coach over the years through their educational clinics and seminars. From competitions to first long distance hauls, they have been there for me.

I am a certified Equine Canada/NCCP coach, and I hope to pursue more education and certification. I currently coach and train horses full time out of Alborak Stable.
